News

🎉 Exciting news! On May 1, 2024, Lyon-Martin Community Health Services achieved a groundbreaking milestone: official designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look Alike by the US Bureau of Primary Healthcare (BPHC) & the Human Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).🏥🩺🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

This highly sought-after status gives Lyon-Martin recognition in the eyes of the state and federal government, enhanced Medi-Cal reimbursement rates, and future funding opportunities, while also strengthening the clinic’s commitment to serving our most marginalized communities.

Attaining independent FQHC status has been a decades-long aspiration for Lyon-Martin, symbolizing true financial sustainability and autonomy.

Additionally, we are proud to announce that Lyon-Martin is now the first transgender-led FQHC, marking a significant milestone for inclusivity and representation in healthcare leadership. Previously, we operated under federal recognition as a sub-grantee of the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium’s Healthcare for the Homeless grant and as part of HealthRIGHT360, also an FQHC LAL, but never as our own entity. JM Jaffe, CEO, Makisha Maier, COO, Dr Nick Gorton, Medical Director, and our Board of Directors spearheaded this monumental endeavor, ensuring our clinic’s endurance for generations to come. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, dedicated team, and @hrsagov we’re continuing to expand access to vital healthcare services. 🥳

Lyon-Martin Community Health Services’ Board is seeking applicants for new board members!

If you are a current patient who might be interested, please apply and spread the word. Heart Emoji

Some cool facts about LMCHS:

We are an independent nonprofit health clinic centering queer people, trans people, and cis-women’s health and wellbeing.
We are a merger of two legacy SF community clinics: Lyon-Martin and Women’s Community Clinic who have served our community for decades.
We provide patient centered care for those who often can’t find safe and accessible health care in other settings and are run by and for the communities we serve.

Serving on the board is a really great opportunity to contribute. The clinic provides so much: primary care, sexual and repro health care including abortion, gender affirming care, mental health care, outreach services, health worker training programs and more.

If you’re passionate about any of these values please consider applying! We are looking for current patients at this time. No experience is necessary though some experience with fundraising will be helpful!
