Letter to our patients and LGBTQ community:
There is simply no place in the world like Lyon-Martin Heath Services. And today we can say with confidence that Lyon-Martin has a long, healthy and vibrant future. Our strategic merger with HealthRIGHT 360 has officially been signed off by all of the appropriate parties and approved by the State of California.
Since announcing our plans to merge with HealthRIGHT 360 last year in May, the Lyon-Martin board has continued to meet each month to oversee clinic business just as we normally would. However, as part of our plans to merge, board members from HealthRIGHT joined our board and three Lyon-Martin board members joined HealthRIGHT’s board. This gave us an invaluable opportunity to get to know each other’s organizations even better while ensuring a smooth, thoughtful transition. I know I echo the full board’s assessment that we have found the ideal partner through this journey. HealthRIGHT’s leadership, staff and board appreciate and embrace everything that makes Lyon-Martin special.
As a true test of this successful merger, we have received positive responses from the community and donors over these past nine months. But the best measure? Lyon-Martin patients experienced no changes or gaps in services. We have our exceptional, unflappable clinic staff and Dr. Dawn Harbatkin’s leadership for making certain of that.
I, like many of you, know that this message could have just as easily been about defeat, about closure. We have all seen too many LGBTQ community organizations struggle and fold. Instead, today is a promise of open doors and continued excellent service for our patients. Our clinic’s namesakes Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, whose love for each other and unwavering dedication to our community, continue to inspire us and live on in this clinic.
There are so many courageous people who helped us get here — too many to list here. To all of you, on behalf of the board, thank you for standing with us and believing in this amazing clinic.
Here’s to Lyon-Martin!
