DAWN_LGBT13_Harbatkin_186What a difference a year makes! A year ago I couldn’t have imagined that we would be in the final stages of joining the HealthRIGHT 360 family of programs. We have been working tirelessly with leadership at HealthRIGHT 360 as we integrate our programs.  As the merger moves forward, we are able to focus on many exciting projects and opportunities, while upholding Lyon-Martin’s unique focus and culture of care.

One area we are able to focus more on thanks to the merger is research. Our project, WHAM (Women’s Health and Mindfulness) is a community-based participatory research project, which means that our community is involved in the project from the initial design of the questions, through the implementation of the project, through the analysis of the results, to the communications of what was learned.  And we do this collaboratively with really smart, skilled, experienced researchers as equal team members.  I am so excited to be doing this type of research – where we are doing it with our community instead of on our community. We will be able to do more of this type of research in the future, and I am completing a training program called QuickStart to help us succeed in those endeavors. Get a full update on WHAM here.

We are also able to better connect with our supporters and really get to know you.  In this eNews, you’ll hear the story of a unique supporter, Laurel Mueller and why she is choosing to honor her mother’s legacy with a gift to Lyon-Martin. Read Laurel’s story here.

Our Patient Portrait truly exemplifies how meaningful this merger is. Grace will be featured as a Lyon-Martin success story in an upcoming HealthRIGHT 360 video and during her filming shared that not only has she been a Lyon-Martin patient for ten years, but she also is a graduate of Walden House, one of the original HealthRIGHT 360 programs. Learn more about Grace here.

Old traditions are not lost in this merger though. This month we celebrated two years of our monthly sustaining donor program, $10 on the 10th; we are in the midst of planning our annual party, Dazzle coming up on December 4th; and 30 Days of Health 2015 is slated for February. So mark your calendars for December 4th when we will celebrate our community, dance and Dazzle – tickets are already on sale!

Best,
Dawn Harbatkin
